Coveme, Italian manufacturer of engineered polyester films with production sites in Europe and Asia, is pleased to announce that it has obtained the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification for several products of its Kemafoil® KTR® brand, a range of release films suitable for heat transfer print applications.
OEKO-TEX® is one of the most important certification bodies globally and the use STANDARD 100 certified products means for the customer a guarantee in terms of product safety and processability. In order for the products to bear this seal, all components must meet the criteria, and must be free from harmful substances that are prohibited and regulated by law, such as azo dyes, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium and nickel. Also other harmful chemicals for which there is no explicit legal regulation, for example pesticides, must not be found in the textiles. In addition, a skin-friendly pH value and colour fastness are tested. The conceivable ways in which the pollutant could be absorbed by the body are taken into account and checked accordingly: via the skin, the mouth or breathing.
In fact, the certified products are all part of the Kemafoil® KTR® Green product range, a series of new generation films that are coated in Coveme’s production lines equipped with the latest UV and EBeam technologies. The result are heat transfer films for print and casting that are free of chrome, formaldehyde and phthalates, specifically designed to offer printers and cast film manufacturers easy handling, excellent ink receptivity, photo grade finish together with effortless transfer and peel.
The certified KTR® transfer films include versions for digital print and screen print, with products for casting to follow soon, and are all certified in product class I, the one with the strictest requirements and the most stringent in terms of limit values.
Furthermore, the KTR® Green product films are an integral part of Coveme’s Green Solutions roadmap, a multiple level approach, that, starting from the Green Product materials, offers these in KTR® ECO version made of recycled polyester (rPET), and has its ultimate goal in the implementation of a circular economy model, where, after being used, Coveme’s films are upcycled through an innovative monomer recycling process to become again new film.
In this context the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification is an important milestone for Coveme and an encouragement to continue in the commitment to develop and produce increasingly eco-friendly materials that protect the environment around us and that contribute to an eco-sustainable and certified production chain.
