Sappi is a leading global supplier of sustainable wood-fibre products. The company offers solutions in dissolving wood pulp, printing papers, packaging and speciality papers, casting and release papers, biomaterials and bioenergy.

DYE-SUBLIMATION PAPER

Within the various business units, advancement and innovation of dye-sublimation paper is one of Sappi’s key areas. As early as 2018, the company recognised the potential offered by digital printing papers. This led to the acquisition of a speciality paper business, with high-performance mills in Carmignano and Condino, Italy.

INVESTMENT

Sappi has experienced a significant increase in the demand for sublimation paper. Over the last two years, the company has invested several million euro to expand its Centre of Excellence at its facility in Carmignano. With this investment, the company is increasing production capacities to support ongoing growth in the dye-sublimation business, while further enhancing its exceptional service and lead times.

SUBLIMATION PAPER - COATED AND UNCOATED

Sappi’s portfolio of proven dye-sublimation paper includes uncoated Basejet as well as Transjet, which offers unique coatings, using water-based, dye-sublimation inks. In fact, Sappi’s Transjet is one of the leading brands of dye-sublimation paper worldwide. It is especially focused on offering an effective solution for the various types of end applications and their specific needs. The vast diversity of equipment and inks available is also to be considered. The papers enable the users to obtain excellent and repeatable results.

“Selecting the right sublimation paper is decisive to ensuring excellent results for the specific application during sublimation transfer”

Sappi’s Basejet, uncoated dye-sublimation paper range is more specifically suited for light-coloured designs and cost-driven productions. These are largely produced for the fashion and home textiles industry.

Sappi’s complete range of coated Transjet and uncoated Basejet sublimation papers enable the conversion of wide-ranging applications with absolute reliability. Practically any sublimation project can be carried out with outstanding quality.
Users benefit from quick, uniform colour transfer with excellent colour vibrancy, maximum efficiency, minimal ink consumption and consistent, repeatable results.

TEXTILE INDUSTRY SOLUTION

Digital, dye-sublimation printing is a compelling and sustainable solution for textile manufacturers operating in areas such as interior design, sportswear and equipment, fashion and decoration, as well as soft signage. However, it is important to select the right sublimation paper for the specific application. For example, sportswear calls for a very special, coated paper with higher ink-load capacity to ensure intense, vibrant colours. Considering the elastic textiles so often used in this type of application, the colours also need to be visible when the garment is stretched. This specific transfer process requires a coated paper with excellent adhesion properties – such as one of Sappi’s Transjet papers – which ensure optimal ink penetration into the fibres while avoiding any ghosting effects.
